Late June is peak time to target the hatchery-longing kings here. Lately, though, stocks have been thin, to put it mildly. Good chance of some dolly varden via roadside haunts. Keep track of roadside fishing status via the Fish and Game website. You might also keep an eye on Brad's page at Alaska Flyfishing goods. The piscatorian historians among you might go straight to the June, 28, 2018 link. (P.S. That's Tom's bro, Dave. Hint: Buy him beer.)
One option you may want to consider is a fly-out flyfishinbg trip with Bear Creek Outfitters. Not cheap but a really solid business. You'll likely be targeting dolly varden (sea run trout), but you'll get a beautiful flight out of the deal, too. See if you can get guide Mark Heironymous. He is a total badass (and hilarious). Check him on Instagram at mhieronymus49. They also do bear viewing trips.
Ka-ching. ( But maybe catch king. )
Gawd, I wish I could take all of y'all out in my little beer can of a boat. But if you really want to catch fish- and just give the financial band aid a quick hard rip--you can take a charter. Honestly, I don't know nuttin' about which charter boat is better than the other, but I can run a background check if you're shopping. Juneau Sportfishing is the local dispatcher of charters. Maybe give them a call. Ask about the halibut status, too.
Not yet giving up my day job to be a charter skipper.
